August 11, 2019 Vienna, Austria

Again, we had a very nice breakfast at the hotel.  We walked towards the city center and bought a two day “hop on/hop off” city tour.  We started with a walking tour with an English speaking guide at 11:30.

We enjoyed lunch at a sidewalk cafe, then checked out St Stephan’s cathedral.  The current churches built in the 1300’s and stands on the ruins of the first church that was completed in 1147.

Much of the city was built by the Habsburg family dating back to 1440.  They reigned as kings and emperors of the Holy Roman Empire up until 1918.  A display of your wealth also reflected on your power.

From the bus, we saw many sites, mostly built in the 1800’s.  It was a very hot day.  And to us, there was just too much opulence on display.  And it was hard to capture in photos.  I guess we enjoy the little villages better.  It would have been fun to attend a concert, but we didn’t have dress clothes that were required.
