January 29-February 1, 2021 OK and Dallas, TX with Beverly Krause

My sisters and I decided we wanted to spend some time together this winter.  Janice lives in Aberdeen, SD, but was spending several months in Donna, Texas this winter.  She found a condo for a week in Brownsville, TX for us to share.  I meant to have us pose in this position for a comparison.  Sorry, forgot.

On Friday, Jan 29, I flew into Oklahoma City to meet up with Beverly Krause at her home in Harrah, OK.  We had a great lunch near the airport at the Cattleman’s Restaurant in the Stockyard area of OKC.  Traditionally, this Friday would have been the end of our volunteer week in South Dakota for Ski for Light.  The event was cancelled this year because of the Covid 19 pandemic.  On Friday after the event, many people would go to the Saloon No. 10 in Deadwood for Bloody Mary’s before heading their separate ways.  So Bev and I had a traditional Bloody Mary in memory of all our friends who couldn't attend the event this year.

We also toured the state capitol building on our way back to her home.
We spent some time with Bev’s son’s family that weekend.  Kevin, Melanie and their girls, Maci, McKenna and Mya live within 30 minutes of Bev’s home.  Kevin smoked awesome brisket for us.  Melanie cooked awesome sides and a blackberry cobbler with homemade ice cream.  And the girls entertained us.  They are growing up too fast.

On Monday, Bev and I started our road trip through Texas.  I have never spent any time in Texas.  So we made plans to see a couple relatives and do a few touristy things.  Our first stop was in Dallas.  We met relatives of Dave’s at a restaurant for dinner.  Dave’s cousin Lindy Austin lives there.  We met at a restaurant in the Bishop’s Art District, south of downtown Dallas, Paradiso.  It was an Italian restaurant with nice outdoor seating.  We were joined by Lindy’s husband Brian, daughter Dani, son David and his wife Aubrie.  We had such a fun evening catching up on their lives and laughing a lot.  They are such a fun and loving family.  Bev and I arrived a little early and had time to walk around the neighborhood.  It was a really fun art district with lots of shops and restaurants.  After dinner, we drove south to Waxahachie for the night.
